The game of Airsoft is not just ‘point and shoot.’ Airsoft employs real military tactics and is called ‘MilSim’ or ‘Military Simulation’. A die hard Airsoft team fanatic learns these strategies and executes them effectively in the field and the result is an intimidating team that everyone else wants to beat. Tactics are basically common sense solutions to different situations and has been perfected for over 3,000 years ever since men had a taste of power. These tactics, once proven successful, can be accepted as ‘tactical doctrine.’ They are cornerstones on winning battles either real or not.
It is understandable that people often say that learning tactics in Airsoft is not necessary since BB pellets have limited range. But even before the invention of the cannon, military tacticians like William the Conqueror or Alexander the Great fought wars and won without the use of gun powder. These two great men used whatever weapon they had at that time and used them to their advantage. They both know that the range of their weapons is not important but their experience and cunningness.
Yes! Airsoft machine guns look cool and emptying a 300-round magazine is really fun when pointed at friends who do the same thing. Still, if a cunning tactic was employed before even firing a single shot, the opponents will stand in awe before even knowing what hit them. Numerous battles have been lost due to lack of strategies. In fits of rage, soldiers charge down the enemy line and get slaughtered.
In tactics, it is very important to follow a commanding officer. His job is to win the battle by using tactics. Positioning an Airsoft Sniper in a spot that’s both hidden and strategic is already a tactic. Even hiding behind a tree and scanning for an enemy is form of tactics.
Maybe the Japanese who invented Airsoft wanted to have fun taking down a soda can, but ever since other people saw the game as a safe way to train the military or the police, the use of tactics in Airsoft will instill discipline and camaraderie to participants whether with real bullets or pellets.
