Having the right gear can make a big difference to your chances of surviving in hostile environments and Bear Grylls is as good as they get. I’ve been looking at some of his kit over the past few weeks and have found that in general it is pretty good value and pretty good quality although of his products are a bit gimmicky and not completely useful. I especially thought that about his compact multi-tool which is small enough to fit on a keyring but is too small for serious work.
So how does his ultimate tool stack up?
I have to say I’m a lot more impressed by this. Its size is big enough to mean it is useful without being so big and heavy that you will leave it at home and not have it when you most need it. It has enough tools to be useful for every day purposes in fixing stuff around the house or at work and it also has some of the key things you might need in an emergency. I’ve always thought that multi-tools are better used for these purposes than in a real emergency (when it is hard to beat a decent fixed or locking blade) but if you have to get someone out of a car crash or similar urban emergency this will do just fine.
